TOM HUGHES SOLO SHOW
TODD BONITA GALLERY
39 Ceres St Portsmouth, NH
October 05 - November 15, '18
Opening reception Friday, October 05, 5-8pm
Proud to host Tom Hughes third solo show at our Portsmouth Gallery this October. This year, in addition to Toms Alla Prima oil paintings, he is including 9 new watercolor paintings. Equally adept at both mediums, Tom brings a fresh and expressive immediacy to his work. When combined with his incredibly sensitive ability to accurately depict the subtle changes in light and dark, it becomes impossible not to respond to their honesty. You feel like you know, "That light". These are not just pretty landscape pictures...they are deeply truthful expressions of one artist unique visual voice. This annual solo exhibition is running along with Toms annual landscape painting workshop here on the seacoast. The show will run through mid November.

FRANK HYER SOLO SHOW
September 07 - 30, 2018
I’m pleased to introduce to the seacoast, local artist, Frank Hyer in his debut solo exhibition at our Portsmouth gallery. Hyer has a Renaissance-like skill set as an Architect, draftsman and painter. Measured design and values and skillfully crafted drawing sets the foundation for this body of work. Tensions created by juxtaposing elements of movement versus stillness and figure against nature, create an overall mood-filled, implied narrative. Evidence of the artist hand is present here and I’m honored to showcase the work in this month long exhibit. The show will be up through September 30.

TIMOTHY HORN SOLO SHOW
May 04 - June 15, 2018.
TODD BONITA GALLERY | Portsmouth, NH
Opening reception Friday, May 04, 5-8pm
I feel incredibly fortunate to announce the opening of the solo exhibition of California based oil painter, Timothy Horn at our Portsmouth gallery this coming Friday. Many art lovers and patrons will be introduced to Tim's work for the first time at Portsmouth's First Friday Art Walk and they will not be disappointed. I love Horns paintings for their simple and understated honesty. His often high contrasting light is filled with carefully observed color executed with subtle temperature shifts. Stand back to take in the breadth of his carefully composed designs...get up close to delight in sophisticated passages of paint that quietly transition from warm to cool... Images of sunlit and nocturnal New England waterfronts find a common thread in this month-and-a-half long exhibition titled, "Waterline". I am honored to welcome this new artist to our gallery with more than fifteen oils that will show the range of this hardworking Artist and Dad.
I hope you will join us at our opening on Friday, May 04 from (5-8pm) for a reception. Public welcome. Click the image of Tims painting to see the online exhibition.

TODD BONITA SOLO SHOW
November 03 - 30, 2017 | Todd Bonita Gallery Portsmouth, NH
Opening reception Friday, November 03, 5-8pm
I've been a Stan fan since moving to Portsmouth, New Hampshire back in 2004. He was the first guy I studied Plein air painting with...I wanted to paint just like him. He's dedicated to the craft, passionate about its history, materials and processes and very smart. He wisely advised me back then, (...and I'm paraphrasing...) "You can only paint like you, don't try to be something you are not, paint like you". I tell my kids to, "Just be you" all the time but its an interesting knock on the side of our heads to revisit this simple idea as an adult. Stan is undeniably himself and his work celebrates that dictum. I can't wait to hang this show.

Dennis Poirier Oil Painting Demonstration
Todd Bonita Gallery, Portsmouth, NH. Saturday, November 12
Join us for an afternoon with a live oil painting demonstration by local Plein air painter, Dennis Poirier. Dennis Poirier grew up in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The colors, sights, and sounds of the busy port and fishing fleet inspired Dennis. His earliest memory is of his father drawing his portrait. Dennis says his parents always supported his art and that gave him confidence.
Dennis began to paint and soon became a part of the long line of Cape Ann’s contribution to American impressionist painters. He feels proud and fortunate to be part of the Cape Ann legacy.
Dennis began his studies in high school and then went to Butera School of Art in Boston. He returned to Cape Ann to become the first student studying the Atelier System with John C. Terelak and Ted Goerschner at the newly formed Gloucester Academy of Fine Arts. Later he moved to New York City to study at the Arts Student League winning the Charles J. Romans Memorial Award at his very first national exhibit at the Allied Artists of America Show.
He treasures his time, memories, and inspiration from artists Don Stone, David A. Leffel, John C. Terelak, Salvatore Fortunato Grasso,Tom Nicholas and Paul Strisik. This will be a blast, hope to see you. Refreshments, treats, arts and friends.

My good friend and art mentor, Donald Jurney has been an incredibly generous man for as long as I have known him. He has always shared his artistic knowledge and time with so many artist. I am proud to call him a friend and honored to share the news of his latest gift to the art world; along with his equally generous wife Kim, they have just launched The Donald and Kim Jurney Traveling Fellowship.
The Fellowship provides one grant per year to an emerging or mid-career artist, working in a traditional representational manner, for painting or study in Europe during the year following application. The award to the winning Fellow is $5000. The painter need not be a landscape painter. The funds in the award are intended to defray costs of travel both to and within Europe, and to help to defray costs of lodging, meals, and art materials, etc.

150 Years of Painting on the Isles of Shoals
Gallery Talk and Slide presentation by Christopher Volpe
This 30-45 minute slide-show talk presents the history of painting on the Isles of Shoals. Many are familiar with Childe Hassam's impressionistic depictions of Appledore, but scores of other artists, before and since, have responded magnificently to these remote, rock-bound islands. Surveying the broad variety of artistic approaches to depicting the Shoals offers something of a history-in-miniature of American landscape painting. Open to the Public.

Exhibition room: Alastair Dacey & Adam Irish Fundraiser
I am excited to announce the Grand Opening of our second location and the introduction of The Todd Bonita Gallery to my hometown, Portsmouth, New Hampshire on April 1, 2016. This is a year-round space and will serve as my art studio and gallery showroom. The Ogunquit gallery in Perkins Cove will remain open seasonally from May through October and my Portsmouth based, Button Factory art studio will remain open as a studio space for larger works, classroom space and the annual open studio holiday event.
This new gallery will showcase my original oil paintings along with the works of some of my teachers, mentors and nationally recognized oil painters, such as Alastair Dacey, Donald Jurney, Stan Moeller, J.C. Airoldi, David Lussier and others. We are located at 39 Ceres street, across from Portsmouth's iconic tugboats.
Beyond our showroom is an exhibition room that enables us to host featured shows with new offerings as part of Portsmouth's First Friday Art Walks.
