Trained in the classical tradition, Karen painted portraits and figurative work before focusing on landscapes. Feeling light is a defining factor in the landscape, It is the atmospheric quality of the light she captures in her paintings. Her work is a desire to paint what inspires her and to capture the very essence of the scene. Now living in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the coastal scenery is providing her with endless inspiration for her marine work, garnering her a multitude of awards including these recent top awards - Best Water Award in the Plein Air Salon, Award of Excellence in the 2020 Eastern Oil Painters of America Exhibition, Second Place in the March Bold Brush Competition, First Place in the Spring Oil Painters of America Online Showcase and The Seascape Award of Excellence in the 28th National Juried Oil Painters of America exhibition in St. George, Utah.
Karen's paintings have been included in museum and nationally juried exhibitions including the Marine Art Society National Marine Exhibition, touring 6 museums Nationwide, The Channel Islands Maritime Museum Exhibit, The Cultural Center of Cape Cod Special Exhibit showcasing the regions Finest Marine Artists, the Huntingon Museum of Art, The Pasadena Historical Society and the California Art Club. Solo Shows at the Todd Bonita Gallery in Portsmouth, N.H., The Birmingham Community House, The BUC in Bloomfield Hills, MI and The Saline Art Center in Saline, MI.
