ART THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
It seems like our world has been in free fall for a long time. Which way is up? Have we hit bottom?
Our everyday conversations now include terms like endemic, ’flatten the curve’, PPE and asymptomatic. Social distancing and rules governing commerce and education have required us all to reinvent social norms and rituals.
There is no shortage of fear and uncertainty. But with love and mutual respect in our hearts we dare to live with hope and gratitude.
Our beloved downtown has cautiously come back to life with the reopening of many businesses and the expansion of outdoor seating. However many of our businesses were not able to weather the storm. Visitors returning to our city will find it a very different place with vacancy rates not seen in many years. Our artists are also scrambling to invent new ways to create and do business.
Art Through the Looking Glass is our hopeful response to this post Covid World: to its effects on our city, our restaurants and our art venues; and to the many downtown shops that have sadly closed. Our goal is to temporarily repurpose vacant storefront windows, inviting you to experience the work of select local artists in an outdoor setting while bringing beauty, vitality and commerce back to our city.
Join us in celebrating our community, its resilience and the important role art and artists play!
